ARUGAMBAY
Arugam Bay is a bay along the Indian Ocean on the dry southeast coast of Sri Lanka. It’s about 320 km east of Colombo. This place is popular for surfing and tourism. Although it’s a favorite among budget travelers, the area is slowly recovering, thanks to private efforts. The main road in town hasn’t been fixed yet, but there’s ongoing work to make it better. However, Arugam Bay itself hasn’t changed much. As of May 2009, no official or international help has come, except for some support for local fishermen and school rebuilding programs. Unfortunately, these programs often lead to separate schools for different communities.
